Terra and Luna comprised of a sophisticated 'stable coin' that relied on independent market participants arbitraging in order to achieve a 'peg', or anchor to the USD. You can read more about it here.
Many never believed in an automatic, truly free-market system like this could have ever succeeded. Are they right, or are they only right for now?
Time will tell but this is certain - trust has been shaken in the crypto-space and it's either going to get worse (with justifiable regulation now being welcomed in), or it's going to get better (if faith in traditional finance erodes at a faster pace).
